AS Territory Day and the Tennant Creek Show continue to grab headlines, another vibrant event is on the horizon for Tennant Creek residents.

NAIDOC Week, which commences on 7 July, promises to bring the community a burst of cultural celebration.

This year’s theme, “Keep the Fire Burning: Blak, Loud and Proud,” has inspired the NAIDOC Committee to curate a diverse lineup of events.

These events are designed to engage all members of the community, ensuring that everyone can find something that resonates with them.

The festivities kick off with an electrifying Opening Ceremony at the Youth Centre on Sunday 7 July.

Scheduled to start at midday, the ceremony will feature enthralling live music and a wide array of family-friendly activities, laying the foundation for an unforgettable week of jubilation.

Highlighting the festivities on Monday morning is a captivating march that aims to unite the community and evoke a strong sense of togetherness.

Tuesday brings an engaging film evening offering both entertainment and cultural enlightenment to attendees.

Midweek, the NAIDOC Week agenda takes a heart-warming turn as the Elders Lunch assumes centre stage, providing a space for elders to share their wisdom and experiences.

This tradition holds significant value as it allows the community to appreciate the contributions of those who have played a pivotal role in shaping its identity.

The week draws to a fitting close on Thursday with a vibrant and invigorating Family Fun Day, featuring an array of exciting activities suitable for all ages.

This day of celebration promises to leave a lasting imprint on the hearts of all attendees.

Residents are encouraged to peruse the program of events as Tennant Creek prepares to honour NAIDOC Week in 2024.

Mark your calendar, spread the word, and be part of the celebration as the community comes together to honour the rich cultural tapestry that defines its essence.

Let’s ignite the flame of unity and pay homage to the spirit of NAIDOC Week.
